New face at landmark Dundalk store

Declan McEneaney who takes over the Greengates Stores

A NEW leasee has taken over the ever popular Greengate Stores on the Dublin Road, a shop that has become a landmark in the area.

Declan McEneaney, who is originally from Fatima, but now lives in the Bay Estate, is hoping to carry on the proud tradition at the store, which has become a lynch pin in the local community and something of a local hub.

“The shop here has everything you could want,” says Declan, who is already well known in the community. “I know it is a very well regarded shop so I want to keep in going in that tradition.”

Declan, a family man with four girls, is a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels iniative and regularly goes on pilgrimages to Lourdes.

“I’ve been involved in running shops for many years, and when I saw that the lease was available here I jumped at the chance. I know that the shop has been here for not far off a century, with William and Bridget Cleary having run it back in the 1930s. I guess there is a responsibility there to keep that heritage going.”

The convenient nature of its location make this store a winner for local people, but Declan is keen to stress that the prices are very competitive.

“We are known for our compeitiveness and we can meet supermarket prices and in some cases be lower then them. If someone wants something in the morning, I will have it in the shop by the afternoon.

“I love being involved in the local community, and I’m looking forward to meeting many more people as the weeks go on,” concluded Declan. “Sure 90 per cent of them know me already.”
