DUNDALK Town Council officials are to meet with their street cleaning contractors to try and sort out “operational issues”.

“I’m not happy with the consistency of the performance,” said Town Clerk Frank Pentony.

The matter was raised at the monthly meeting of the town council when councillors discussed the latest report by IBAL (Irish Business Against Litter).

Dundalk has slipped to the end of the IBAL litter league and councillors wanted to know why.

Dundalk is now 37 out of 42 towns.

But Cllr Marian Butler was critical of IBAL report and its whole approach to adjudication.

“The adjudicators for the national tidy towns give a date as to when they will arrive,” she said, but we have no idea when these adjudicators are coming.

“Dundalk has secured a gold medal in the national tidy towns for five years in a row.

“Yet we are down in the IBAl league. Something is wrong. I don’t have fate in this league anymore.

“Let’s forget about them at this stage.,” she said.

Cllr Mark Dearey said the council should write to the Departmentfor the Environment, which fubnds IBAL.
