Sarah Nic Lochlainn and her husband, Sarajit Chanda, who own Fuchsia House restaurant in Ardee and of Dragons’ Den fame, were featured on a special RTE St Valentine’s Day Nationwide programme last week.

Sarajit is from Bangladesh and Sarah is from Donegal and as well as describing how they met, the programme also featured Ardee and the thriving business they run.

As well as operating a very successful restaurant, the couple have also launched their Aruna Sauces range which was nominated for the Bord Bia-sponsored Best Food and Beverage Start Up.

The couple have three children, Maya aged six, Laoise, four and Sachin, just three months.

Sarah was nine months pregnant when she appeared on RTE televison’s Dragons’ Den.

Businessman Gavin Duffy invested 30,000 euro in their highly successful Aruna Sauces brand.

Sarah has been a driving force in pormoting locval food brands and also been involved in the Louth Economic tourism action plan.

She is one of the founder members of the highly successful Ardee Turfman Festival, a weekend of summer events which runs over the August bank holiday weekend.

Sarah Nic Lochlainn was also shortlisted in the National Start Up Awards while her mother Margaret was nominated for Women’s Way Mum of the Year Award.

“It’s no secret that we couldn’t run our businesses without the help mum gives us,” said Sarah.

“Sarajit and I work long hours between Aruna and our restaurant, Fuchsia House.“Mum spends a lot of time in Ardee helping us with the kids”.

When Sarah heard that Woman’s Way magazine was looking for nominations for Mum of the Year, she thought it would be a great way to recognise all her mum’s hard work.

“People think mum comes to Ardee to chill out” she laughs. “But that’s not true. The poor woman is run ragged!
