Organisers of the this year’s Santa Run have told the Democrat that the Guinness World Record for ‘Santas running’ is already effectively broken, with over 3,900 people signing up for the charity event.

Speaking to the paper yesterday afternoon (Monday), Jimmy Cummiskey said: “We will easily break the record. In fact want to set it as high as possible.

“ It will be confirmed on Friday evening when the runners run through with their badges, which will electronically count how many have taken part.

“There will also be notaries there to make sure that the criteria for the record have been met.

“A great deal of money has been raised for charity already.

“We are now in the process of ordering 500 more Santa suits!”

It’s not too late to take part in the run, which takes place this Friday at 6.30pm.

The official starter for the event will be Fr Michael Cusack of St. Joseph’s Redemptorist Dundalk and well known advocate of local charities and causes. Entry fee is €10 per person or €25 for a f amily of 4 with suits provided free for the run.

If you, your family or your local club would like to be part of this great event and be a record breaker call Tracey in Dundalk Chamber on Tel: 042 9336343 or email membership@dundalk.ie or log on to www.dundalk.ie/santa to register.
