Ardee and District athletic club had two athletes competing in the recent All-Ireland indoor championships at Athlone.

Niamh Tenanty under 14 ran in the girls 60m sprint. First there was a technical fault with the start and then two false starts by athletes, the race finnally got away. Niamh ran a great race and secured herself a place in the final along with 7 more of Ireland’s top sprinters. The final was again hindered by false starts and a disqualification of one athlete. Niamh ran a great race and was unlucky not to make into the medals.

Niamh also competed in the shot putt and made it into the final eight and her throw of 10.62 gave her a 5th place finish.

Also competing was Jonathan Commins. Jonathan was competing in the u13 shot putt. He was the All-Ireland indoor and outdoor champion last year so he is no novice to this event. He started the competition with a powerful throw of 11.27 giving him a new personal best. This put Jonathan in the lead straight away. While his other five throws were all over 11m, his first throw won him a place on the podium, a gold medal and the all Ireland title for 2013. Well done to both.
