Louth Fine Gael TD and Minsiter of State Fergus O’Dowd has welcomed the decision of the Special European Union Programmes Body to reinstate the Narrow Water Bridge Project for consideration for funding
“The Narrow Water Bridge project is a very important innovation which will benefit counties on both sides of the border,” said Minister O’Dowd.
“The tourism potential is huge for these two beautiful areas of Louth and South County Down, bringing an additional focus on Carlingford Lough and its environs.
“I am delighted to see that following an appeal to a review panel, the application for funding can continue and the project will now move to the next stage.”
Minister O’Dowd added: “The project has my full support, and has received a lot of backing across Co Louth – particularly from Louth County Council.
“Louth County Council together with Newry and Mourne District Council and The East Border Region will now work together with the Joint Technical Secretariat in order to progress the application to the second phase of the process...”
The second phase is the preparation of a business plan.
