Ardee AC athletes meet with Olympic champion O’Sullivan

Three Ardee and District AC athletes qualified from the Leinster Championships to compete in the All Ireland Track and Field Championships held in Tullamore last weekend.

Three Ardee and District AC athletes qualified from the Leinster Championships to compete in the All Ireland Track and Field Championships held in Tullamore last weekend.

Jonathan Commins threw his way to success to claim the gold medal in the Boys U12 shot putt, making him a double gold medallist in this event as earlier this year he also won at the National indoor Championships.

Conor McMahon competed in the Boys U13 high jump, where the standard proved to be exceptionally high. Conor jumped 1.35m giving him a personal best and a finish of 8th place.

Niamh Tenanty competed in the Girls U13 80m and shot putt. She ran her heat and semi-final in fine style finishing in 1st position in both races. In the final the cream of the country gathered at the starting line. The race was run at as super fast pace and Niamh crossed the line in 2nd place to take home the silver medal. Niamh also was a medallist in the shot putt where this time she hurled the shot to claim 3rd place.

A great weekend for these three cousins was capped off with Sonia O’Sullivan, former Olympic champion sharing words or encouragement and wisdom with Conor, Niamh and Jonathan.
