The nine athletes from St Peter’s AC who competed in the Ardee & District AC Open Sports last Sunday week produced a host of excellent performances which resulted in them winning no fewer than ten gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Niamh Brady was the star of the show as she won three events in the U10 age group – the 80m, 200m and Long Jump (3.16m). The club’s other U10 athlete, Seán Allen, was also in fine form, taking gold in the 200m, silver in the 80m and bronze in the Long Jump (3.26m). Young Lucy Brennan starred in the U9 events, storming to victory in the 60m and battling strongly to take the bronze in the 200m.

Katie Murphy moved up an age group to contest the U15 Shot Putt. She enjoyed an excellent victory with a massive throw of 11.64m with the heavier 2.72kg implement. Ava Brennan performed very well in the U14 age group despite finishing just outside the medals.

The Dromiskin-based club dominated the U19 events in Ardee. Chloe Finley was in a class of her own in winning both the 100m and 1500m.

Her brothers Luke Finley and Daniel Finley were also in top form. Luke won the 1500m and finished 2nd behind Daniel in the 100m, while Martin McGrane’s bronze in the 100m made it a clean sweep for St Peter’s in that event.

With the 2014 track and field season now at an end, several club members and parents spent last Saturday packing bags for shoppers in Tesco, Longwalk Shopping Centre, Dundalk. The success of this fundraising venture is due to the generosity of Tesco’s customers, the support of the store’s management and staff, and the efforts of those from the club who came along on the day. All at St Peter’s sincerely appreciate the contribution of all those involved.
