Hoey is a top Sportstar

LOCAL garda and Louth county footballer Aaron Hoey has won the Gaelic football category at the annual Garda Sportstar Awards.

LOCAL garda and Louth county footballer Aaron Hoey has won the Gaelic football category at the annual Garda Sportstar Awards.

Hoey from Knockbridge was presented with the Coiste Siamsa Sportstar Award on Friday, November 18, in the Limerick Strand Hotel, Limerick.

Hoey has represented Louth for 16 years at senior level and with 160 outings in the jersey is second in the all time county’s appearances list.

He is the holder of three NFL medals – the most recent being division 3 winners 2011 and was also was on the Louth team controversially defeated by Meath in the 2010 Leinster final.

Hoey is stationed at Mountjoy, but does tireless work for his home club, St Bride’s of Knockbridge. The Annual Garda Sportstar Awards are organised by Coiste Siamsa (The Garda Sporting Body) and sponsored by St Raphael’s Garda Credit Union.

This is the 18th year of the Awards, which honour men and women who have excelled in sport locally, nationally and internationally.

Jimmy Magee of RTE was the Chairman of the selection committee and presented the awards.
