The day far exceeded all our expections - the word sof John Joe Cunningham, Chairman of the Carrickmacross Vintage Club.

John Joe was speaking to the Monaghan Democrat in the wake of the inaugural Carrickmacross Vintage Rally, which saw hundreds of people descend on the Shercock Road to partake in the day out.

The rally was in aid of the Cavan/Monaghan Downs Syndrome Association, and drew celebrity stars including intercounty star Paul Finlay and his sister Laura, aswell as members of the Monaghan Minor team who won this the Ulster Championship, aswell as the Monaghan Ladies, who also crowned champions of Ulster earlier in the year, while there was also a guest experience from Big Tom.

“There were hundreds here and it was a far larger successs than expected. There was also great excitement when the stars of the GAA were here, as well as Big Tom.

“There was something for everyone, young and old. Thee was a bouncy castle, a bonnie baby show, ice cream stalls and load of livestock on show.

“I’d like to thank the people of Carrickmacross and the surrounding area for supporting the event.”

“The committee would like to say a special thankyou to Bernadette McKittrick and her family for giving us the use of her field.

“It’s early days but after this success we would very much like to have another one next year.
