THE Fr McNally Chamber Orchestra is celebrating 40 years of Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) with a gala concert on Saturday, February 11 at 8pm.
The guest conductor is Proinnsias O’Duinn, while internationally acclaimed violinist Rita Manning from Ravensdale will return home to perform at The Faulkner building, DkIT.
Rita, a past pupil of Rev Fr Brendan McNally, has a highly successful international solo career that has included performances with the London Chamber Orchestra and the Academy of St Martin of the Field.
The grand finale of this gala concert will see Rita perform the ever popular ‘Czardas’ by Monti.
“It is fantastic to have the opportunity to work with Rita Manning and Proinnsias O’Duinn,” said Orchestra Director, Briege McGoldrick.
“Rita was one of Fr McNally’s first pupils and many of the members of our orchestra are also past pupils of Fr McNally. It is a real privilege for us to have Rita and Proinnsias perform with the Fr McNally Chamber Orchestra.”
She added: “Proinnsias O’Duinn has personally arranged and orchestrated the music for the second half of our concert which includes audience favourites such as Cavalleria Rusticana and Barber’s ‘Adagio for Strings’.”
The orchestra has been busily rehearsing in the Department of Music and Creative Media at DkIT where the Fr McNally Chamber Orchestra has been ‘Orchestra in Residence’ since May 2011.
According to the organisers, this promises to be a “wonderful gala concert with classical favourites for all to enjoy”. The orchestra also expressed its thanks to DkIT, Co Louth VEC and Create Louth for their support.
Tickets for the gala concert cost e15 and are available from Devenneys in Crowe Street, Dundalk. They are also available from the St Vincent de Paul shop.
All proceeds of the gala will be donated to the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
