Dromiskin man and Louth GAA fitness coach Jonny McGailey was voted Escort of the Year by the Roses at this year’s Rose of Tralee Festival at the Dome in Tralee.
Jonny was escort to the Leitrim Rose Edwina Guckian.
And he proved to be a winner as this year’s Roses voted him the bes t man around.
Dáithí Ó Sé, host of t he annual brains and beauty pageant, announced the result live on RTÉ One television, and Nicky Hill from Newbridge Silverware presented Jonny with a wonderful prize consisting of a 44-piece silver-plated canteen engraved with his family crest.
Jonny also received a stylish gents collection of Newbridge Jewellery including Rose of Tralee cufflinks, bracelet, watch, leather belt and wallet and a cheque for €1,000.
“I’m absolutely thrilled. It’s a nice addition to what has been a brilliant week,” said the Dromiskin man. “It could have been any one of the guys. They are all wonderful chaps and I’m honoured to have been selected.
“I escorted Edwina Guckian the Leitrim Rose. She is a fantastic girl. She is multi-talented and she has represented Leitrim extremely well. The county should be extremely proud.. She had fantastic support with her.”
Jonny said he would love to come back and reunite with the “fantastic escort team”.
He is currently on an internship with Louth GAA working as a strength and conditioning coach.
Jonny is heavily involved with his local GAA team, St Joseph’s, coaching underage levels.
He has also coached young people in the skills of soccer.
