Massive complex to add to institute’s sporting and leisure facilities

The DkIT revealed yesterday (Tuesday) evening that they have been given the go ahead to purchase the JJB complex in Dundalk.

Although negotiations stalled in recent times, the DKIT revealed the terms of the deal have been agreed.

The DkIT’s finance committee met on Monday to finalise the deal.

The complex will be privately operated and a public tender will be issued for an operator.

A student referendum took place at the end of last year to vote on the possible purchase.

The referendum was passed, with students facing a hiked levy of €125 a year if the purchase of the complex is made.

The state-of-the-art complex is the home to a dozen indoor soccer pitches, ice rink, gym, swimming pool, bar, coffee shop and a retail area.

It is understood that a shuttle bus will run every 15 minutes between the college and the complex.
