Glenroe star Mary McEvoy, aka Biddy, is set to return to Dundalkm for her portrayal of Nana Casey in Fruitcake

The Dundalk Democrat caught up with Ms McEvoy and ask her about a role which clearly holds close to her heart.

“I’ve toured with this play before, and I pretty familiar with it. That said, I always find when I come to it that there is more to be taken from it.”

Set in the 1950s, Mary believes that the play has plenty of resonance for a modern audience.

“I think the themes that are explored in Fruitcake are pretty universal, and that’s lots there for a modern audience.

“I know Dundalk and it is definitely a place I look forward to come back to. I know that Louth is one of the most age friendly counties in Europe and that is great as the Bealtaine Festival celebrates age.”

“It’s 12 years since I finished and and eleven years since the show finished,” says Mary about the role for which she is best known.

Commissioned by Meath County Council Arts Office for Bealtaine Festival 2010 it toured Meath, Cavan and Louth. Bealtaine Festival produced and toured Fruitcake to 25 venues nationally from Waterford to Donegal, Inis Oirr to Dublin for the festival 2011.

Fruitcake will play at the AV Theatre at the County Museum, Dundalk on the following dates: Matinee 1pm Thursday 7th June 2012 and Evening Show 8pm Thursday 7th June 2012. Tickets Available at Carroll’s Books, Dundalk; Phone: 042 9334359. Tickets are priced at e12.50 with concession: e10 (credit card charges apply).
