STADIUM rock is coming to Dundalk! This week, after rumblings that there would be a big gig announcement for the town, it was confirmed that singer songwriter Bressie will headline a multi-act concert at Oriel Park, the home of Dundalk FC.

The 6’6 star of RTE’s The Voice will be apparently making an appearance in town this week to promote the gig, which the promoters are calling Oriel Live, which will take place on the July 6, starting at 1.30pm.

At a press conference this week event organiser Adrian Thompson told the paper: “It’s the first stadium gig of its kind in Dundalk and as well as having a name of the calibre of Bressie, it will also feature a lot of local talent.”

The gig came about after the original Clones venue became effectively unviable due to a fire safety issue at the location. After a meeting with Dundalk TCCM, the promoters pitched having the concert at Oriel Park instead.

Acts for the gig include The Original Rude Boys, Shadow Play, Le Galaxie, Vann Music, Dirty Epics and the Flaws will all appear at the gig.

A main stage will be placed at the Carrick Road end, while the will be a long bar, food and a number of beer tents and a DJ tent.

Tickets will cost €35 for a seated ticket and €30 for an all day ticket for the pitch. Family tickets cost €75.

A percentage of the ticket sales will go towards homeless charity Focus Ireland.

Adrian Thompson said: “It’s a fantastic stadium and venue for a gig. Last year we had Aslan and Mundy, and it had a kind of mini Glastonbury feel. We hope that this event will have an atmosphere all of it’s own.

“Please come along, as it’s going to be a great day!”

This will be the first concert of this kind since a musical jamboree was held back in the 1970s.

Tickets will be avaible online in the next few days and will also be available at Photospeed in the Longwalk. The OrielLive.ie website will also be going live in the next few days.
