As Ardee is now twinned with the Italian town of Nettunoin the Lazio region in central Italy, dignitaries from Italy will be among the special guests at this year’s parade taking place which starts at 3pm on St Patrick’s Day Parade.

In the past, the Italians enjoyed traditional music sessions and banquets that featured food produced in mid-Louth by local companies. This year there are lots of events planned for our visitors who will be sure to see Ardee at its absolute best.

However it is not just the vistors who will enjoy an extra special parade, the organisers have promised an event that will be remembered by one and all. There will at least six bands including of course the Ardee Concert Band. It is one of the finest parades in the country and entry is free so it is well worth travelling to the town to take part in these celebrations.

Cllr Padraig McKenny has been at the centre of the parade’s organising committee for some time, and he said that once again there is a huge entry for the annual event.

Cllr McKenny told us that this year’s Grand Marshall will be Patricia Reid, Campbell’s Park, Ardee who has safely guided children across the road in her role as “Lollipop Lady” at the Moore Hall, Ardee entrance to the Monastery Boys National School since September 1984.

This is a very popular choice as it honours a wonderful lady for her devotion to her duties over the years.
