DUNDALK singer-songwriter Jinx Lennon is staging his very first theatre production about the dark side of urban Ireland in the Galway Theatre Festival next weekend.
The show is entitled ‘Man V. Energy Vampire-Behold This-S-S Self Indulgence Gene’ and is being staged in association with Septic Tiger Records.
“It’s a voyage into insanity to discover sanity. The whole show looks at post boom Ireland and the smaller stories tied up with it,” said Jinx.
“It’s lively, funny, and disturbing. It lasts for around an hour and consists of voices recorded on tape recorders lending a slant on what’s happening.
“I also use some images that are claustrophobic and sinister. I already staged the show in Dublin. Some really liked it and some people weren’t really sure what it was.”
Jinx will take to the stage at Nun’s Island Theatre Galway on Friday, October 28 at 8pm and on Saturday, October 29 at 1pm in the same venue.
“My theatre show addresses my themes of social dysfunction, and the darker side of urban Ireland with more emphasis on making the audience think and use their imagination a bit more,” he said.
“Between my music performances, a recorded voice (mine) comments on themes concerning the songs themselves in a method similar to William Burroughs or maybe even Samuel Beckett, as both are influences.
“This connects the music pieces and sets the scene.”
Jinx will also be performing in The Spirit Store on Saturday, October 15 at 8.30pm with special guests Kilkenny hip hop legend Captain Moonlight and local man Sam O’Hare.
“The Spirit Store gig is my usual show although there will be some aspects of my theatre show.”
