MUSIC fans in the Dundalk area are in for a treat this Summer as Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is set to host a concert by the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI).
The CBOI has just completed a National Tour selling out “Peace Proms” concerts in Ireland’s most prestigious venues including the Waterfront Hall, Belfast; the Helix, Dublin; and City Hall, Cork.
The long awaited date for “Peace Proms Dundalk” has now been announced as Saturday, June 25. Over 7,000 children from primary schools throughout Ireland have already performed with the orchestra in the “Peace Proms 2011”.
“The CBOI is delighted to be completing this year’s programme with a performance at home to celebrate the end of the academic year,” said CBOI Founding Director Sharon Treacy-Dunne.
Local schools which will be forming the choir for “Peace Proms Dundalk” include St Joseph’s Avenue Road; Ardee Educate Together; St Peter’s Dromiskin and Monksland Primary School.
The Dundalk concert will mark the end of a run of performances by the CBOI this year before orchestra rehearsals resume again in the DkIT in August. The orchestra will also make their London debut next year with a landmark performance in world renowned Royal Albert Hall.
If you are aged between 12 and 24-years-old and play a musical instrument, you too can become a member of the CBOI. New members will be taken in August. Apply on line at www.cboi.ie. If your school would like to get involved, you can contact CBOI on 086-8283268.
