DUNDALK Musical Society is inviting the public to join it in celebrating its 60th anniversary by attending its production of the musical Oliver!

The Society’s Diamond Jubilee production of the classic Dickensian musical Oliver! is running at An Tain Theatre in the Town Hall from October 12-16.

The cast of almost 70 children and adults have been busy rehearsing and perfecting their singing, dancing and acting skills since May of this year.

The cast are being directed by award winners Chorus Mistress Geraldine Casey, Musical Director Mary McCague, Choreographer Laura Martin and Director Alan Kinsella.

The stage crew are led by Anne Copas who recently won Best Stage Manger at the Association of Irish Musical Societies awards ceremony in Killarney.

Oliver Twist (Adam McArdle) is a young boy who lives in a workhouse run by the hard hearted duo Mr Bumble (Paudie Breen) and Widow Corney (Patricia Savage) with other orphaned boys.

When Oliver disrupts a meal by asking for more, he is sold to creepy local undertakers Mr and Mrs Sowerberry (Ciaran Callan and Aisling McCormack) and his family (Aideen Ahern and Brian Halpin).

They treat Oliver horribly and make him sleep under the coffins. Oliver escapes and runs off to Paddington Green, where he quickly befriends another young boy, the Artful Dodger (Craig McHugh).

Dodger takes him to his home, an academy for orphans who learn how to be pick-pockets run by a kind, yet slightly sinister, old gentleman named Fagin (Tim Ahern).

Oliver is also introduced to Nancy Sikes (Lorraine Quigley), a lovable young woman, and Bet (Ciara Quigley), Nancy’s best friend.

When Oliver goes on his first pick-pocketing job, he is caught by the police. To find out what happens to Oliver next, pop along to the show.

Oliver! will be staged nightly at 8pm with a matinee performance on Sunday, October 16 at 3pm. Tickets are priced at e15 with concessions available at e12 for Wednesday and Thursday night only.

All matinee seat tickets cost e10. Book your tickets at the box office in the Town Hall or on 042-9392919.
