A SPECIAL event in aid of Conor Hughe’s Cross Cause Charity took place at the O’Connell’s new club rooms in Castlebellingham and proved a huge success.

Huge crowds came out to support this worthy cause and enjoyed a great night with the ever popular Crystal Swing the main act supported by Willin’ Fools.

The special guest was Tony Reilly who performed tracks from his latest CD The Bachelor Farmer.

The organisers Pat Fury and Dolores Grimes were delighted with the turnout.

“It was a fantastic night,” said Pat. “Crystal Swing were fantastic and Willin’ Fools brought the house down.

“They were such a hit, they have been invited back again in September.

“Tony Reilly also went down a bomb. This was his first major appearance.

“And the venue was superb.”

Indeed The O’Connell’s new clubrooms is now staging top local functions. They have a state-of-the art function room as well as all other top class facilities.

To celebrate their 75th anniversary some years ago the club created a brilliant DVD record celebrating a wonderful history going back to the mid 1920s.

It was produced by Michael Cunningham and has contributions from many well-known club members who served the O’Connell’s down through the years.

It is certainly a collector’s item.
