Eugene Dooley been evicted
There were angry scenes at an apartment complex on Chapel Street as the local sheriff forcibly removed a man from his home at the behest of Permanent TSB.
THERE were angry scenes last Tuesday in Dundalk when a local home owner was forcibly removed from his apartment in the town. A group of bailiffs lead by local sheriff, Mairead Ahern, made their way to the apartment of thirty-five-year-old Eugene Dooley, a unit within the Old Library apartments complex just off Chapel Street.
Around 9.30am they entered the Mr Dooley’s basement apartment against his wishes and when a friend of Mr Dooley attempted to gain access to the flat, he was arrested by Gardaí, who were also at the scene.
Following the fracas Mr Dooley was left outside the apartment building, where a crowd of supporters had amassed. Members of the Anti-Eviction Taskforce, where on site and vocal in their support.
At one point when Mr Dooley was remonstrating with members of Gardaí who were guarding the door to the apartment as the sheriff erected a steel curtain blocking the door to the apartment, a Garda could be heard to say “That was your home”.
The repossession was ordered at the behest of Permanent TSB, to whom Mr Dooley owes money as he is arrears on his mortgage.
Mr Dooley, who was a quantity surveyor before the recession says that the bank have refused to discuss modifying his rate of repayment to them.
Sheriff Mairead Ahern had attempted to gain entry to Mr Dooley’s apartment last month, but had been unsuccessful in her attempt.
