Film selected for sci-fi festival
Students from the 2nd year of the BA in Video & Film Production along with students on the Certificate for Skills in Independent Living will be featured in a Nationwide piece that features a joint project the two groups of students undertook this year. Entitled DKIT Ablevision, the project was inspired by a network of the same name in the US where people with special needs work alongside others in making television programmes
A SHORT film made by four Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) students has been selected for the International Sci-fi Film festival.
The film entitled ‘Solaria’ was made by Darren O’Connor, John Hoey, Rossa O’Dowd and Craig Broughton as part of their 4th year practice-based research project on the BA (Hons) in Video & Film Production last year.
Solaria centres on Alex Russell, a geneticist on-board the Solaria Research station and was shot locally in Dundalk. It will be shown at the International Sci-fi Film festival in Phoenix, Arizona on March 29 - April 5.
Meanwhile, 2nd year students from the BA in Video & Film Production, along with students on the Certificate for Skills in Independent Living, will be featured on Nationwide.
Nationwide filmed a report at DkIT on Monday, February 6 about a joint project the two groups of students undertook this year.
Entitled DKIT Ablevision, the project was inspired by a network of the same name in the US where people with special needs work alongside others in making television programmes.
The students produced a five minute chat show, which was screened for the first time in the Screening Room in the PJ Carroll building before Christmas.
The project is the brainchild of local entrepreneur John Delaney. The broadcast date for the Nationwide show has not yet been confirmed.
Separately, a number of industry experts are giving guest lectures to the Video & Film Production students. Fourth years are currently participating in an intensive week-long Production Design module with Fiona Daly, who has previously been the Production Designer/Art Director on films such as ‘Alarm’, ‘When Brendan met Trudy’, ‘About Adam’, ‘Angela’s Ashes’, ‘The Boxer’, ‘The Van’ and TV series such as ‘The Clinic’ (RTE).
Later this year 4th years will also experience a week-long intensive directing module delivered by Marian Quinn, director of the recent successful Irish film ‘32A’.
Third years will undertake a three-week long intensive cinematography module, which will be delivered by PJ Dillon, a renowned Director of Photography (‘The Runway’, ‘Kings’, ‘32A’, ‘My Brothers’) and Director (‘Rewind’).
