An Tain to stage ‘Skullduggery’ in Dundalk
Skullduggery
THE Cuchulainn Players are staging an original musical comedy entitled ‘Skullduggery’ by Tony de Barra in An Tain Theatre from February 16-18 at 8pm.
There will be 17 musical numbers with a range of genres by Eamonn, Fionan, and Ruairi de Barra. Special guest performers include 30 members of Stacey Murnaghan’s young dance troupe ‘Funky Feet’.
The musical is set in Kilmactranny Passage Grave. The plot revolves around all of the residents, some full-bodied and others are just skulls.
They are alive and well and reminiscing about their lives above ground. They comment on current affairs, past mistakes and the fact that they all hope to move on from there to another level of existence.
They have to perform for an ‘adjudicator’ who determines which of them move on, and when. They only move on when they have come to terms with all the mistakes they might have made when they were above ground.
The residents also have to contend with local children who break in to the Passage after an entrance has collapsed. Some of the characters involved in the production include two partly illiterate Neanderthals, a victim of the great flu epidemic in 1918 and two gangster’s molls from the 1930s.
There are also two brain-frazzled hippies, an evicted country woman, a couple who never got on in life and an emigrant who went to England in the 1970s.
Tickets cost E15 and are available at An Tain box office. Group discounts are also available.
