Top cereal manufacturing leader, Kelloggs, presented the school with a top award after they raised money for the Kellogg's Jump for Joy Schools Challenge.

At the end of the challenge, all money raised from events across the country go towards the Children's Medical and Research Foundation at Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.

In total, students from secondary schools across Ireland raised over e160,000 for the worthy cause.

In the Dundalk school, second year students organised a sports blitz which included a number of events such as basketball, hula hoop and soccer all whilst wearing pyjamas.

The funds raised by the students will go towards refurbishing the hospital's wards and play areas, upgrading the main hospital kitchen and to funding the hospital's Clown Doctor Programme.

Through the Clown Doctor Programme, a team of professionally trained actors dressed as 'Clown Doctors' visit young patients every week to spread fun and laughter throughout the hospital wards.

Speaking at the awards ceremony in Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin, Edel O'Malley, Director of Operations, Children's Medical and Research Foundation said of the Dundalk school's contribution.

"We are delighted to present St Louis Secondary School with this award for their fund-raising efforts for Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin. The enthusiasm and creativity of this year's entrants was truly inspiring."

The award was presented to the students and teachers Claire Timmons and Lisa Byrne.
