Traffic jams at St Vincents school atr the end of School day

Dundalk Town Councillor Oliver Morgan has called for the Road Traffic Management staff of the Council to carry out a detailed evaluation of the twice daily traffic chaos at the front of St Vincent’s School.

Cllr Morgan said: “While I appreciate that it is convenient for both students and parents to stop the car on the street at the front of the school building and just remain stopped until the student comes out, finds the car and gets in, nevertheless, the pandemonium which presently prevails represents a serious safety hazard, not to mention a deeply exasperating experience for other road users who have to get to their destinations and get their day’s work done, which is often difficult enough without having to be traffic jammed at St. Vincent’s for excessive periods.

“I have been contacted in this regard by several constituents, some of whom have students at St. Vincent’s themselves and one such was obliged to wait in the school exodus traffic jam for 16 minutes. Each of my constituents insists to me that something must be done to bring some order to the access and egress traffic at the school.

“I have asked our staff for a preliminary evaluation of this unacceptable situation to be carried out urgently and I would expect to receive a written report from the Council’s staff ASAP.”
